Background

The Center for Advanced Energy Studies Nuclear Energy University Programs (NEUP) will host the 2009 Nuclear Energy Research Initiative (NERI) Project Review Meeting under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Nuclear Energy (NE). The review meeting will be held on August 11–12, 2009, at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The event will cover a detailed review of 33 NERI projects awarded in FY 2007. DOE awarded 22 individual NERI projects in April 2007 to 20 U.S. universities with 5 national laboratories, 2 U.S. businesses, and 1 international laboratory as collaborators; and 11 NERI projects involving consortia (NERI-C) in September 2007 comprised of 38 U.S. universities, 7 national laboratories, and 1 U.S. business.

The meeting will provide a forum for the evaluation of all FY 2007 projects in terms of each project's continued technical merit, its progress in accomplishing its stated objectives, and its programmatic contributions. The NERI Project Review Meeting will also provide a unique opportunity for communication among the scientists and engineers engaged in NERI-sponsored research. All lead Principal Investigators will serve as both presenters of their projects and as reviewers for the other projects assigned to their panels.
